Dr Chris Morris

Bio

Chris is Scientific Director of the Newcastle Brain Tissue Resource, a large tissue bank for the study of neurodegenerative disorders.  His research is aimed at identifying the biology underpinning the clinical symptoms found in different forms of neurodegenerative disease, particularly Dementia with Lewy Bodies, and the identification of potential diagnostic and treatment targets. He has a major interest in toxins that affect the central nervous system and the possible role of toxins in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Experimental systems including developing stem cell based approaches to determine how specific chemicals such as pesticides or solvents cause dysfunction in neurones and glia, are used to identify the processes that underpin these changes. The effects of chemical exposure on the neuropathology of the nervous system are a particular interest. Overall, these studies are used to identify biomarkers and treatment targets for neurodegeneration and chronic neurological disease.

Dr Morris's appointment as a member of the COT expires on 31st March 2027.
